I’ve been tinkering around with the idea of doing product reviews for some time now. I get a lot of questions about my gear and software and what not, and I think having a place to direct some of these questions will help everyone out a lot. So here is my first one!
A few weeks back I received a DM from Skip Cohen saying I had won something for following him on Twitter. Skip Cohen is an industry legend and someone I highly recommend following regardless of if you win anything for it! Mr. Cohen is a marketing genius and has held some of the top positions in the photography industry. He even resigned from Rangefinder magazine a year ago to pursue a career of his own, in one of the worst economies in history! His website is just full of information on how to make it in this industry.
I was told I won a camera bag from Jill-E designs, a company I hadn’t heard of yet. So I checked them out and, WOW, they have some amazing products. Jill-E designs is primarily a company that focuses on the female photographer. They were tired of the mass majority of camera bags being so masculine so they went about to create camera bags directly geared towards the female, style and fashion conscious photographer. Well I am clearly not a style or fashion conscious female photographer, so for people like me they have a line called Jack. Jack bags are simply designed for men. When I got the bag I was a little skeptical, I have to admit. I was really happy to get a free camera bag but I just didn’t know if I would use it that much. But boy was I wrong! The craftsmanship of this bag is absolutely flawless and top of the line. But what really surprised me was how much I could fit in this bag. I have been using a Lowepro rolling carry-on bag to haul my gear around. It’s bulky, it’s awkward, it’s heavy. I can either roll it around during a photo shoot, or I can detach it and carry it as a big square back pack. Either way I look like a loser. But all that changed with this bag! I can fit everything I had in my Lowepro bag into this Jack bag with the exception of my second camera body! They Jill-E website states this bag can hold 2-3 moderately sized lenses. Well here’s a list of what I fit in the bag:
Canon 1Ds Mark III body
Canon 70-200mm 2.8
Canon 24-70mm 2.8
Canon 50mm 1.4
Canon 15mm fisheye
Canon STE-2 Speedlite Transmitter
Canon 580 EX II Speedlites (x2)

Now I can use my lowepro bag for gear that I use at special events, like weddings. Gear that I don’t need when I go to the park or just walking around. I should mention that I do have a lowepro shoulder bag, but it can only carry one lens and one body. This Jack bag blows it out of the water. The craftsmanship of this bag, the style, the durability, the capacity, all make this camera a very valuable asset to my collection of gear. Now, to get this high of quality, you will have to pay for it. This camera bag retails for $239.99. But I definitely think it’s worth it if your in the market for a new shoulder bag. This bag gives me the ability to carry the majority of my day-to-day gear without the hassle of a rolling bag or big, awkward backpack. Here’s a couple more images of the bag to show how good looking it is

If you are on Twitter and in the photography business, or just a hobbyist, you should definitely follow Skip Cohen as well as Jill-E Designs. Thanks to both of you for this awesome camera bag!
